The C-Media CM6642 is a low-power, single-chip USB 2.0 high-speed audio codec designed for USB and USB Type-C audio products. It integrates a low-power MCU, a 2-channel DAC, a 3-channel ADC, a hardware active noise cancellation module, an S/PDIF transmitter, a Class-G headphone amplifier and a PWM LED driver, providing a highly integrated solution for audio playback and recording applications.
Supporting USB Audio Class 1.0 and 2.0, the CM6642 delivers playback and recording at sampling rates up to 192 kHz with 16-bit or 24-bit resolution. Its programmable MCU, GPIO, I²C and SPI interfaces allow flexible firmware configuration and communication with external audio devices or flash memory. Additional functions include audio jack detection, four-button headset control, automatic OMTP/CTIA switching and USB HID support.
With an embedded oscillator, integrated voltage regulators and 16 KB OTP memory, the CM6642 requires only a small number of external components, helping reduce PCB space and overall BOM cost. It is suitable for USB/Type-C headsets, ANC headphones, microphones, speakers, VoIP devices and docking stations. The device is supplied in a compact QFN-48, 5 × 6.5 mm package.
