The ICM-42688-P from TDK InvenSense is a high-performance 6-axis MEMS MotionTracking® device integrating a 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer in a single compact package. It supports a highly accurate external clock input to help reduce system-level sensitivity error, improve orientation measurements derived from gyroscope data, and reduce ODR sensitivity to temperature and device-to-device variation.

The gyroscope provides selectable full-scale ranges of ±15.625, ±31.25, ±62.5, ±125, ±250, ±500, ±1000 and ±2000dps. Gyroscope sensitivity error is specified at ±0.5%, while rate-noise density is only 0.0028dps/√Hz, or 2.8mdps/√Hz.

The integrated accelerometer provides selectable ±2g, ±4g, ±8g and ±16g full-scale ranges, with ±0.5% sensitivity error and only 70µg/√Hz acceleration noise density. User-programmable digital filters are available for the gyroscope, accelerometer and temperature sensor.

Integrated APEX motion functions include pedometer, tilt detection, tap detection, Wake on Motion, Raise-to-Wake/Sleep and Significant Motion Detection. The device also supports a real-time-clock input and high-resolution 19/18-bit gyro/accelerometer FIFO data formats.

Host connectivity includes up to 12.5MHz I3C, 1MHz I²C and 24MHz SPI. Both VDD and VDDIO operate from 1.71V to 3.6V. Typical six-axis current consumption in low-noise mode is only 0.88mA, combining precision motion sensing with relatively low system power.

The ICM-42688-P measures only 2.50 × 3.00 × 0.91mm and operates from -40°C to +85°C. TDK classifies the device as Commercial Grade, with AEC-Q100 listed as No.
