The CM6535 from C-Media Electronics is a highly integrated USB 2.0 audio chip designed for USB headsets, microphones, speakers, docking stations, and other digital audio products. It is compliant with USB 2.0 Full-Speed, USB Audio Class 1.0, and USB HID Class 1.1, enabling plug-and-play operation on major operating systems.
The device integrates a 1T 8051 microprocessor, 512KB SPI Flash including 32KB firmware programming space, and 32KB RAM. Firmware can be used to implement HID buttons and functions, customize VID/PID and product strings, and support flexible hardware configurations. I2C, SPI, UART, and twelve programmable GPIO pins are also provided for external control and peripheral expansion.
CM6535 integrates a 2-channel DAC and 2-channel ADC with microphone, line-in, speaker/headphone, digital microphone, I2S, and S/PDIF interfaces. Its internal DAC, ADC, and I2S interfaces support sampling rates from 8kHz to 96kHz with 16-bit or 24-bit resolution. Built-in equalizers on both playback and recording paths help compensate for headphone and microphone frequency response.
Additional features include a 30mW headphone amplifier at a 32-ohm load, tri-color PWM LED driver, watchdog timer, and OMTP/CTIA automatic switching for 4-pole headset jacks. The device uses a single 5V supply, requires an external 12MHz crystal, and is supplied in a 64-pin LQFP 7×7mm package. Typical applications include USB gaming headsets, VoIP headsets, USB microphones, USB DACs, audio boxes, speakers, and notebook or tablet docking systems.
