The Microchip LAN9252I/PT is a highly integrated 2/3-port EtherCAT SubDevice Controller (ESC) designed for industrial automation and real-time Ethernet applications. It integrates two full-duplex 100BASE-TX Ethernet PHYs, reducing external component requirements while providing a compact EtherCAT communications solution.

Each integrated PHY supports 100Mbps 100BASE-TX operation and HP Auto-MDIX, allowing either straight-through or crossover Ethernet cables to be used. 100BASE-FX fiber connectivity can also be implemented using an external fiber transceiver.

The integrated EtherCAT controller includes 4KB of Dual-Port RAM (DPRAM), 3 Fieldbus Memory Management Units (FMMUs), 4 SyncManagers and a 64-bit distributed clock. These capabilities support deterministic real-time data exchange and precise synchronization in automation and motion-control systems.

LAN9252 supports several host-interface options, including an 8/16-bit Host Bus Interface (HBI) and a low-pin-count SPI/SQI interface. The SPI/SQI controller supports single, dual and quad data lanes with clock rates up to 80MHz, providing flexible connection to microcontrollers, processors and SoCs.

For simpler applications, the device can operate in Digital I/O mode, allowing 16 digital signals to be directly controlled or monitored by the EtherCAT network without requiring a local microcontroller. An additional MII port enables three-port configurations and flexible star or tree network topologies.

The LAN9252 can be configured to operate from a single 3.3V supply using its integrated 3.3V-to-1.2V linear regulator. The LAN9252I/PT industrial version operates from -40°C to +85°C and is supplied in a 64-pin TQFP package with exposed pad, measuring approximately 10 × 10 mm.
