The NXP NX48P0407HNR2 is a USB Type-C CC and SBU protection IC for USB Power Delivery 3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR) applications. USB PD3.1 EPR can raise VBUS to 48V, creating a risk that adjacent CC1/CC2 or SBU1/SBU2 contacts may short to VBUS due to connector movement, contamination, or moisture. The NX48P0407 provides fast overvoltage protection to isolate the system-side interface from these high-voltage faults.

The CON_CC1, CON_CC2, CON_SBU1, and CON_SBU2 pins are rated up to 60V DC absolute maximum. The CC OVP path provides approximately 250mΩ on-resistance with greater than 20MHz 3dB bandwidth, while the SBU OVP path provides approximately 3.6Ω on-resistance with greater than 200MHz bandwidth.

The device provides an OVP turn-off response of approximately 60ns and integrates IEC 61000-4-2 protection rated at ±8kV contact discharge and ±15kV air discharge. NXP also specifies surge protection on the connector-side CC/SBU paths up to approximately +80V.

Additional functions include dead-battery Rd support for the CC path, a standalone GPIO for enabling the SBU path, and approximately 40µA standby quiescent current on the CC protection path.
