The STMicroelectronics S2-LPQTR is a high-performance, ultra-low-power Sub-1GHz RF transceiver designed for wireless communication applications requiring long range, low power consumption and flexible RF configuration.
The S2-LPQTR operates across 413–479MHz and 826–958MHz frequency bands, covering common Sub-GHz wireless frequencies such as 433MHz, 868MHz and 920MHz. It supports multiple modulation schemes including 2-FSK, GFSK, 4-FSK, 4-GFSK, OOK and ASK, making it suitable for a wide variety of proprietary and standardized wireless protocols.
Its programmable air data rate ranges from 0.1kbps to 500kbps, allowing designers to balance communication range, throughput and power consumption. Receiver sensitivity can reach -130dBm, while programmable RF transmit power reaches up to +16dBm, providing a strong RF link budget for long-range applications.
The device integrates 128-byte RX and TX FIFO buffers, programmable digital filtering, channel-spacing control, automatic frequency-offset compensation, automatic gain control and symbol-timing recovery. Communication with the host MCU is provided through a standard 4-wire SPI interface.
S2-LP also integrates an embedded packet handler with automatic packet acknowledgment and retransmission, CSMA/CA functionality, programmable preamble and synchronization-word detection, real-time RSSI and antenna-diversity support. Hardware packet processing is available for IEEE 802.15.4g, including whitening, FEC and CRC functions.
The transceiver supports Wireless M-BUS, KNX-RF, SIGFOX and MONARCH applications, making it suitable for smart metering, IoT, industrial monitoring, alarm systems and low-power wireless sensor networks.
The S2-LPQTR operates from 1.8V to 3.6V over an industrial operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C. It is supplied in a compact 24-lead QFN package measuring 4 × 4mm, with tape-and-reel packaging for automated SMT production.
