The TDK InvenSense ICM-20948 is a highly integrated 9-axis MEMS MotionTracking® IMU combining a 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis magnetometer, and an embedded Digital Motion Processor™ (DMP). It is housed in a compact 3 × 3 × 1mm, 24-pin QFN package for wearables, IoT devices, drones, and embedded motion-sensing systems.

The 3-axis gyroscope features programmable full-scale ranges of ±250, ±500, ±1000, and ±2000dps, with integrated 16-bit ADCs and typical noise density of 0.015dps/√Hz. The accelerometer supports programmable ranges of ±2g, ±4g, ±8g, and ±16g, with typical noise density of 230µg/√Hz.

The integrated AK09916 3-axis magnetometer offers a ±4900µT full-scale range, 16-bit output resolution, 0.15µT/LSB sensitivity, and up to 100Hz output data rate. The embedded DMP can process motion data and reduce processing load on the host processor.

Host communication is available through I²C up to 400kHz or SPI up to 7MHz. The device also includes an auxiliary I²C bus, 4KB FIFO, programmable digital filters, a digital temperature sensor, programmable interrupts, and FSYNC support.

The official datasheet specifies a 1.71V to 3.6V VDD range and 1.71V to 1.95V VDDIO range. Typical supply current is approximately 3.11mA in 9-axis low-noise mode with the DMP disabled and the compass operating continuously. Main-device operating temperature is -40°C to +85°C.
