The TNY279PN from Power Integrations is an energy-efficient offline switcher from the TinySwitch-III family, designed for compact AC/DC flyback power supplies, adapters, auxiliary supplies, and appliance power systems. It integrates a 700V power MOSFET, oscillator, high-voltage switched current source, selectable current limit, and thermal shutdown circuitry, helping reduce external component count and overall system cost.
The device supports a universal 85V to 265VAC input range and operates at approximately 132kHz at full load. Its simple ON/OFF control architecture eliminates the need for conventional loop compensation, while integrated frequency jittering helps reduce conducted EMI and the size and cost of external EMI filtering components.
Current limit can be selected through the BP/M pin capacitor, allowing designers to optimize the converter for either continuous output power or higher peak-power requirements. For TNY279P, maximum output capability is approximately 18W in an enclosed 230VAC design and 32W in an open-frame 230VAC design. With universal input, the corresponding figures are approximately 12W and 25W. Actual output capability depends on thermal conditions, transformer design, and system configuration.
Integrated protection functions include auto-restart operation, output short-circuit protection, output overvoltage response, open-loop protection, and hysteretic over-temperature shutdown. These features help improve reliability under abnormal operating conditions.
The TNY279PN is supplied in a DIP-8C through-hole package and is suitable for chargers, AC/DC adapters, PC standby supplies, set-top boxes, household appliance auxiliary supplies, industrial control power supplies, and other low-power flyback converter applications.
