The TOP221P from Power Integrations is a TOPSwitch-II series three-terminal offline PWM switcher IC designed for low-power AC-DC power supplies. It integrates a 700V high-voltage power MOSFET, PWM controller, high-voltage startup circuitry, loop compensation and fault protection functions, helping reduce external component count and simplify switch-mode power supply design.
TOP221P operates at a 100kHz switching frequency with a maximum duty cycle of approximately 67%. It supports Flyback, Forward, Boost and Buck topologies and can operate with either primary-side or optocoupler feedback. Integrated auto-restart, current limiting and thermal shutdown functions provide protection under short-circuit, overload and excessive-temperature conditions.
Supplied in a through-hole DIP-8 package, TOP221P is rated at approximately 9W, with about 6W capability specified for universal 85–265VAC input applications. It is suitable for low-power adapters, standby supplies, auxiliary power supplies, consumer electronics, telecommunications equipment and maintenance of legacy power supply designs. TOP221P is now an obsolete device and is mainly suitable for replacement and existing designs.
