The ADI MAX3232CSE+T, originally developed by Maxim Integrated, is a low-power true RS-232 transceiver integrating two drivers and two receivers. It operates from a single 3.0V to 5.5V supply, making it suitable for both 3.3V and 5V logic systems. Its integrated dual charge pump eliminates the need for a bipolar ±12V supply and converts CMOS logic signals into EIA/TIA-232-compatible levels.
The MAX3232 provides a guaranteed data rate of 120kbps while maintaining compliant RS-232 output levels. Its charge-pump circuit requires only a small number of external capacitors, helping reduce component count, save PCB space and simplify interface design. The device is pin-, package- and function-compatible with the industry-standard MAX232, making it suitable for low-voltage system upgrades and replacements.
The MAX3232CSE+T is supplied in a 16-pin narrow SOIC package and operates over the commercial temperature range of 0°C to +70°C. The lead-free tape-and-reel packaging supports automated assembly. Typical applications include embedded systems, industrial control interfaces, computer peripherals, data-communication equipment, instrumentation, printers and UART-to-RS-232 interface circuits.
