The MP1591DN-LF-Z from Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) is a high-voltage step-down DC/DC converter designed to efficiently convert higher DC input voltages to regulated lower-voltage outputs. It supports a wide 6.5V to 32V operating input range and delivers up to 2A of continuous output current.
The device operates at a fixed 330kHz switching frequency and provides an adjustable output voltage from 1.23V to 21V. Conversion efficiency can reach up to 95%, while an integrated 120mΩ high-side power MOSFET helps reduce conduction losses and external component count.
Current-mode control provides fast transient response and simplifies loop stabilization. Integrated protection features include cycle-by-cycle over-current protection, thermal shutdown, and undervoltage lockout. In shutdown mode, the converter consumes only about 20µA of supply current, helping reduce standby power consumption.
The MP1591DN-LF-Z is supplied in an 8-pin SOIC8E package with an exposed pad and operates over a -40°C to +85°C temperature range. The -LF suffix denotes RoHS-compliant lead-free packaging, while the -Z suffix indicates tape-and-reel packaging. Typical applications include automotive power adapters, battery chargers, distributed power systems, industrial electronics, and other high-voltage buck conversion designs.
