The Realtek RTL8201FR-VB-CG is a highly integrated single-chip, single-port 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet PHYceiver supporting 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX physical-layer operation. It connects to a MAC through an RMII (Reduced Media Independent Interface) and integrates the major Ethernet physical-layer functions required for compact embedded networking designs.
The device supports IEEE 802.3 and IEEE 802.3u Ethernet, together with IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE). It also supports Auto-Negotiation and Auto MDIX, enabling automatic speed, duplex, and cable-pair configuration for simplified Ethernet system design.
Additional power-management and link features include Power Down mode, Link Down Power Saving, Wake-On-LAN, adaptive equalization, automatic polarity correction, baseline wander compensation, and interrupt support. The RTL8201FR-VB-CG supports a 25MHz external crystal or oscillator, a 50MHz external clock input, and can provide a 50MHz clock source to the MAC.
In addition to twisted-pair Ethernet, the PHY supports connection to an external 100BASE-FX fiber transceiver through a PECL interface. The RTL8201FR-VB-CG is supplied in a compact 24-pin RMII QFN Green package and is suitable for digital TVs and embedded Ethernet equipment.
