The STIH237-SKB belongs to STMicroelectronics’ STiH237 family of highly integrated application-specific processors for high-definition satellite set-top boxes. It combines application processing, audio and video decoding, display processing, satellite demodulation, connectivity, security, and low-power standby control for broadcast and hybrid broadcast-broadband receivers.
The device integrates an ST40 application CPU with 32KB instruction cache, 32KB data cache, and 256KB of L2 cache. A 16-bit local-memory interface supports DDR2 and DDR3 memory for middleware, user-interface, and high-definition content-processing workloads.
Its video subsystem supports hardware decoding of H.264, MPEG-2, VC-1, and AVS high-definition streams. Integrated resizing, de-interlacing, and high-quality display processing are included, together with 3DTV decoding and display support compatible with HDMI 1.4a.
The integrated single-stream satellite receiver supports DVB-S2 QPSK/8PSK, DVB-S QPSK, and legacy DirecTV transmission standards. Channel demodulation and forward-error correction are implemented on-chip, reducing the number of external components required in a satellite receiver.
Connectivity includes two USB 2.0 host ports, Ethernet MAC with an integrated PHY, MII/RMII/TMII connectivity, an SD/MMC/SDIO interface, and PCI Express. These interfaces support external storage, network controllers, wireless modules, memory cards, and other set-top-box peripherals.
Secure boot is supported from SLC NAND Flash or serial NOR Flash, with an eMMC boot option. An integrated standby controller operates in a separate power island and supports secure hibernation and fast resume, targeting passive set-top-box standby consumption below 0.5W.
STMicroelectronics currently classifies the STiH237 as Obsolete and Out of Production. The STIH237-SKB is therefore primarily suitable for legacy set-top-box maintenance, board repair, and existing-system replacement inventories rather than new designs.
