The TCA9534PWR from Texas Instruments is a low-power 8-bit I2C/SMBus I/O expander designed to provide additional general-purpose input and output ports for microcontrollers and processors. Operating from a 1.65V to 5.5V supply, the device supports I2C Standard-mode and Fast-mode communication at speeds up to 400kHz.
TCA9534PWR integrates input, output, polarity inversion, and configuration registers along with an open-drain active-low interrupt output. The interrupt function alerts the host controller when an input port changes state, helping reduce the need for continuous polling. Three hardware address pins, A0, A1, and A2, allow up to eight devices to operate on the same I2C/SMBus.
The device also features 5V-tolerant I/O ports, internal power-on reset, and power-up with all I/O channels configured as inputs. Supplied in a compact 16-pin TSSOP package, the TCA9534PWR is suitable for GPIO expansion in switches, sensors, push-buttons, LEDs, fans, industrial equipment, consumer electronics, and embedded control systems.
