The TCLT1003 from Vishay is a single-channel phototransistor-output optocoupler consisting of a gallium-arsenide infrared-emitting diode optically coupled to a phototransistor. Its four-lead SOP-4L long mini-flat package provides electrical isolation between input-control circuitry and the output signal path. Typical applications include switch-mode power supplies, computer peripheral interfaces, and microprocessor-system interfaces.
The device provides a specified current-transfer-ratio range of 100% to 200% at IF=10mA and VCE=5V. At a lower input current of 1mA and VCE=5V, CTR is 34% minimum and 70% typical, supporting isolated status, feedback, and low-speed control signals.
The phototransistor output has a 70V collector-to-emitter voltage rating, a 50mA continuous collector-current rating, and a 100mA peak collector-current rating. Maximum collector-to-emitter saturation voltage is 0.3V at IF=10mA and IC=1mA.
The input infrared LED supports up to 60mA continuous forward current and a 1.5A short-duration surge current. At IF=50mA, forward voltage is 1.25V typical and 1.6V maximum. An external current-limiting resistor is required in normal applications.
Isolation ratings include 5000Vrms isolation-test voltage, a 1050V repetitive peak isolation voltage, and an 8kV rated impulse voltage. The package provides 8mm clearance, 8mm creepage distance, and 0.40mm internal insulation distance.
Typical cutoff frequency is 110kHz, and typical coupling capacitance is only 0.3pF. Under nonsaturated switching conditions, typical turn-on and turn-off times are 6μs and 5μs. Under the specified saturated conditions, typical turn-on and turn-off times are 9μs and 10μs.
The operating ambient-temperature range is −55°C to +100°C, with 250mW maximum total power dissipation. The SOP-4L package measures approximately 10.2mm long, up to 4.1mm wide, and up to 2.3mm high, with a nominal 2.54mm lead pitch.
