The Texas Instruments BQ27Z746YAHR is a highly integrated, low-power battery fuel gauge IC designed for accurate capacity monitoring, battery protection, and authentication in single-cell rechargeable battery packs. Featuring TI’s patented Impedance Track™ technology, this device provides accurate battery state-of-charge estimation and reliable battery management for Li-ion, Li-polymer, and LiFePO4 battery applications.
The BQ27Z746YAHR combines a flash-programmable BQBMP RISC processor, two independent precision 16-bit ADCs, integrated battery protection functions, and SHA-256 authentication in a compact 15-ball NanoFree™ DSBGA package. Its advanced fuel gauging algorithm automatically compensates for battery aging, temperature variations, and discharge rates to improve remaining capacity and time-to-empty predictions.
The device supports a supply voltage range of 2.0V to 5.5V and communicates with host controllers through an I2C-compatible interface operating at up to 400kHz. Its integrated coulomb-counting ADC supports current-sense resistors as low as 1mΩ, while the voltage measurement ADC monitors battery voltage and internal or external temperature sensors.
For enhanced battery safety, the BQ27Z746YAHR integrates programmable hardware protection, including overvoltage, undervoltage, charge and discharge overcurrent, short-circuit protection, and firmware-based overtemperature monitoring. High-side N-channel MOSFET gate drivers provide control of external protection FETs.
Designed for energy-efficient battery-powered applications, the device features multiple low-power operating modes, including 20µA typical sleep current, 10µA ship-mode current, 5µA shelf-mode current, and 0.2µA shutdown current.
Housed in a miniature 15-ball DSBGA package measuring approximately 2.78 × 1.96mm, the BQ27Z746YAHR operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It is suitable for portable electronics, smart battery packs, wearable devices, handheld instruments, and embedded battery management systems.
