The Texas Instruments INA281A1IDBVR is a high-precision current sense amplifier designed to measure small voltage drops across external shunt resistors in high-voltage power and current-monitoring systems.

The INA281 features an exceptionally wide -4V to +110V operational common-mode voltage range and can survive common-mode voltages from approximately -20V to +120V. Its ability to operate below ground makes it useful for current measurements in systems where switching transients or recirculating currents can drive the monitored node negative.

The specific INA281A1 gain option provides a fixed 20V/V voltage gain. The gain is established by an internal precision resistor network, eliminating the need for external gain-setting resistors and simplifying current-sensing circuit design. TI specifies a maximum gain error of ±0.5% and maximum gain drift of ±20ppm/°C for the INA281 family.

With a bandwidth of up to 1.3MHz and a typical slew rate of 2.5V/µs, the INA281A1 is capable of responding rapidly to changes in load current. These characteristics make it useful not only for DC current monitoring but also for fast overcurrent detection and protection circuits.

Precision performance includes a typical input offset voltage of approximately ±55µV and typical offset drift around ±0.1µV/°C. The amplifier also provides a minimum 120dB DC common-mode rejection ratio, helping maintain current-measurement accuracy in systems with high common-mode voltages.

The device operates from a single 2.7V to 20V supply and draws approximately 1.5mA typical quiescent current. Its supply voltage is independent of the monitored common-mode voltage, making it convenient for high-side current sensing on higher-voltage power rails.

The INA281 is a unidirectional current-sense amplifier. Typical applications include high-side motor current monitoring, switching power supplies, telecom equipment, solenoid and valve control, 48V systems and fast overcurrent protection.

The specific INA281A1IDBVR ordering code is supplied in a compact 5-pin SOT-23 (DBV) surface-mount package. The R suffix denotes large tape-and-reel packaging with a standard quantity of 3,000 pieces per reel. TI currently lists this ordering code as Active.
