The Texas Instruments LM2596SX-ADJ/NOPB is a SIMPLE SWITCHER® 3A nonsynchronous step-down switching regulator designed for low-component-count DC/DC power conversion. It operates from a recommended 4.5V to 40V input supply and can deliver up to 3A of continuous load current. TI currently lists the exact orderable device as ACTIVE.
This adjustable version supports an output-voltage range of 1.2V to 37V, with a maximum ±4% output-voltage tolerance under specified line and load conditions. Its typical feedback-reference voltage is 1.23V, allowing the output to be programmed with an external resistor divider.
The LM2596 operates with a fixed 150kHz internal oscillator and includes internal frequency compensation. As a nonsynchronous buck regulator, the application circuit uses an external catch diode, inductor, and input/output capacitors.
An ON/OFF shutdown input reduces standby current to approximately 80µA typical, while normal operating quiescent current is approximately 5mA typical. Integrated protection includes two-stage frequency-reducing current limiting and thermal shutdown. The peak switch-current limit is approximately 4.5A typical, which is a protection threshold rather than the continuous 3A load rating.
The exact LM2596SX-ADJ/NOPB is supplied in a 5-pin TO-263 (KTT) surface-mount package with a nominal body size of approximately 10.10 × 8.89mm. It is rated for -40°C to +125°C operation and supplied in 500-piece large tape-and-reel packaging.
