The ULN2003ADR from Texas Instruments is a seven-channel, high-voltage, high-current NPN Darlington transistor array. Each channel provides an open-collector low-side output rated for up to 500mA of collector current, with a maximum output voltage of 50V. Multiple channels can be connected in parallel when additional current capability is required.

Each Darlington input includes an integrated 2.7kΩ series base resistor, allowing direct operation from TTL and 5V CMOS logic. The high-current-gain configuration enables low input current to control relays, lamps, solenoids, motors, and other medium-current loads.

Seven common-cathode clamp diodes are integrated for suppressing the reverse voltage generated when inductive loads are switched off. When driving relays, solenoids, or motor windings, the COM terminal should be connected to the positive load supply to complete the flyback-current path.

Typical collector-emitter saturation voltage is approximately 0.9V at 100mA, 1.0V at 200mA, and 1.2V at 350mA, with specified maximum values of approximately 1.1V, 1.3V, and 1.6V. Because the Darlington architecture produces noticeable saturation voltage and power dissipation, thermal derating should be considered when several channels drive high-current loads simultaneously.

The ULN2003ADR is supplied in a 16-pin SOIC package measuring approximately 9.9 × 6mm and supports an operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C. The “R” suffix specifies large tape-and-reel packaging with 2,500 units per reel. The device is RoHS compliant and rated MSL 1.
