The LM5164DDAR from Texas Instruments is a wide-input synchronous buck DC/DC converter operating from 6V to 100V and delivering up to 1A of output current. Integrated high-side and low-side power MOSFETs eliminate the need for an external Schottky freewheel diode, helping reduce component count and overall solution size.
The LM5164 uses a constant on-time (COT) control architecture for fast line and load transient response. Minimum controllable on-time and off-time are approximately 50ns, enabling high step-down conversion ratios such as direct conversion from a nominal 48V bus to low-voltage rails. Switching frequency is externally programmable up to 1MHz.
The device is optimized for high light-load efficiency with diode-emulation operation. Typical no-load input quiescent current is only 10.5μA, while shutdown current is approximately 3μA. A 1.2V internal feedback reference allows the output voltage to be programmed with an external resistor divider, and no external loop-compensation components are required.
Integrated protection and monitoring functions include a 3ms internal soft start, peak and valley current limiting, input undervoltage lockout, thermal shutdown with automatic recovery, and an open-drain PGOOD indicator. The LM5164 is suitable for industrial power supplies, high-cell-count battery packs, motor drives, e-bikes, e-scooters, drones and communications equipment.
The LM5164DDAR is supplied in a thermally enhanced 8-pin HSOIC / SO PowerPAD (DDA) package with a 1.27mm pin pitch. It operates over a -40°C to +150°C junction-temperature range, and the DDAR option is supplied in 2500-piece large tape-and-reel packaging. TI currently lists the LM5164 as ACTIVE.
