The Texas Instruments LMR38020SDDAR is a high-voltage 2A synchronous step-down (buck) DC/DC converter from TI’s SIMPLE SWITCHER® family, designed for industrial and embedded power systems requiring a wide input-voltage range and low standby power consumption.
The device supports a wide 4.2V to 80V input-voltage range and delivers up to 2A continuous output current. Its adjustable output-voltage range extends from approximately 1V to 75V, providing flexibility for generating multiple regulated power rails from high-voltage input sources.
With a typical operating quiescent current of only 40uA, the LMR38020 is well suited for always-on and low-power systems where minimizing standby consumption is important.
The switching frequency can be programmed from 200kHz to 2.2MHz, allowing designers to balance conversion efficiency, external component size and EMI performance. The device also supports synchronization to an external clock.
The specific LMR38020SDDAR version includes pseudorandom spread-spectrum operation, helping reduce peak EMI emissions. Unlike the F variants, the SDDAR version does not use Forced PWM operation.
The converter integrates synchronous rectification and an internal compensation network, reducing external component count and simplifying power-supply design. It also supports high duty-cycle operation, making it suitable for applications where the input voltage can approach the required output voltage.
Integrated protection and monitoring functions include cycle-by-cycle current limiting, hiccup-mode short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown, undervoltage lockout, precision enable and Power-Good output. Pre-biased startup is also supported.
The LMR38020SDDAR is supplied in an 8-pin HSOIC PowerPAD (DDA) package measuring approximately 4.9 × 6mm, providing efficient thermal performance for industrial power-conversion applications.
