The Texas Instruments TPS54J061RPGR is a high-efficiency 6A synchronous step-down DC/DC converter designed for compact point-of-load power supplies in computing, networking, communications and industrial systems.

The device operates from a 4V to 16V input voltage range without external bias and provides an adjustable 0.6V to 5.5V output voltage. With an external 3.3V to 3.6V bias supply, the input operating range can be extended down to 2.7V.

TPS54J061 integrates high-performance power MOSFETs capable of delivering up to 6A continuous output current, reducing external component count and helping minimize overall power-supply solution size.

The device uses TI’s D-CAP3™ adaptive on-time control architecture, which provides fast load-transient response and accurate line and load regulation without requiring external compensation. It also supports designs using all-ceramic output capacitors.

Three selectable switching-frequency options—600kHz, 1.1MHz and 2.2MHz—allow designers to balance efficiency, component size and transient performance. Auto-skipping Eco-mode improves efficiency under light-load conditions, while Forced Continuous Conduction Mode is available when predictable switching behavior is required.

Additional protection and control functions include programmable current limit, adjustable soft start, prebiased startup, output discharge, open-drain power-good output and self-restarting hiccup protection for overcurrent and undervoltage faults.

The TPS54J061RPGR is supplied in a compact 14-pin VQFN-HR HotRod™ package measuring 3 × 2mm, making it particularly suitable for high-density power designs where PCB space is limited.
