The LSM303AGRTR from STMicroelectronics is an ultralow-power, high-performance eCompass system-in-package integrating a three-axis digital linear accelerometer and a three-axis digital magnetometer. It enables motion, orientation, tilt, and magnetic-field detection within a single compact sensor module.
The accelerometer supports selectable full-scale ranges of ±2g, ±4g, ±8g, and ±16g, while the magnetometer provides a dynamic measurement range of approximately ±50 gauss. The device provides 16-bit digital output and selectable operating modes for balancing measurement resolution, output rate, and power consumption.
The LSM303AGRTR supports both I²C and SPI serial interfaces. Its I²C interface supports 100kHz standard mode, 400kHz fast mode, 1MHz fast-mode plus, and 3.4MHz high-speed mode. The accelerometer and magnetometer sections can be independently enabled or placed in power-down mode.
The device operates from a 1.71V to 3.6V supply. Typical accelerometer current consumption is approximately 3.7μA at 1Hz in normal mode and 12.6μA at 50Hz. Typical magnetometer current is approximately 50μA at 20Hz in low-power mode or 200μA in high-resolution mode, while full-device power-down current is typically 2μA.
Integrated functions include programmable interrupts for motion, free-fall, and magnetic-field detection, together with click and double-click recognition, pedometer support, an embedded FIFO, self-test functions, and an integrated temperature sensor. These features can reduce continuous processing requirements on the host controller.
The LSM303AGRTR is supplied in a compact 12-lead LGA package measuring 2.0 × 2.0 × 1.0mm, with a 0.5mm pitch. It operates from -40°C to +85°C, and the “TR” ordering option is supplied in tape-and-reel packaging. The product is ECOPACK and RoHS compliant.
