The Texas Instruments BQ24715RGRR is a highly integrated 2-3 cell SMBus-controlled NVDC-1 synchronous buck battery charger controller designed for Li-Ion and Li-Polymer battery-powered systems.

The device supports an input voltage range of 6V to 24V and a maximum charge current of 8A, making it suitable for notebooks, portable computers, industrial systems, and other rechargeable battery applications requiring efficient power-path management.

BQ24715 uses an NVDC-1 power-path architecture, allowing the system to operate immediately even when the battery is absent or deeply discharged. The system voltage is regulated near the battery voltage while maintaining a programmable minimum system voltage.

Charging parameters are programmable through the SMBus interface, including charge voltage, charge current, input current, and minimum system voltage. The device provides high regulation accuracy with approximately ±0.5% charge-voltage regulation and ±3% input/charge-current regulation.

The BQ24715 supports selectable switching frequencies of 600kHz, 800kHz, and 1MHz and features an ultra-fast transient response of approximately 100µs. Its low quiescent current and high PFM efficiency at light loads help reduce system power consumption.

Integrated N-channel MOSFET drivers for ACFET and RBFET simplify external power-path circuitry. The device also includes protection against overcurrent, overvoltage, and MOSFET short-circuit conditions.

The BQ24715RGRR is supplied in a compact 20-pin VQFN (RGR) 3.5 × 3.5 mm package with tape-and-reel packaging for automated SMT production.
