The Texas Instruments LMZ34002RKGR is an easy-to-use SIMPLE SWITCHER® negative-output power module designed to generate regulated negative supply rails for analog circuits, instrumentation, data acquisition, medical equipment and industrial electronics.
The module supports a wide 4.5V to 40V input voltage range and provides an adjustable negative output from -3V to -17V. Maximum output current is up to 2A, with total output capability rated at 15W, subject to output voltage, input voltage and thermal operating conditions.
Unlike a conventional discrete DC/DC design, the LMZ34002 integrates the DC/DC converter, shielded power inductor and key passive components into one low-profile package. TI states that a complete power solution can require as few as five external components, eliminating the need for external loop-compensation design and magnetic-component selection.
The device also provides 45V surge capability, making it suitable for power rails that may experience short-duration input-voltage excursions. An external synchronization function allows the switching operation to be synchronized to an external clock when required by system-level frequency planning.
An adjustable slow-start function helps control output ramp-up during power-on, while programmable undervoltage lockout (UVLO) enables the designer to define the minimum input voltage at which the converter begins operating.
Integrated protection functions include output overcurrent protection and overtemperature protection, helping protect the module and connected circuitry under overload and abnormal thermal conditions.
The LMZ34002 has been EMI tested and is specified to meet EN55022 Class B emissions requirements in the relevant test configuration. TI also specifies enhanced thermal performance of approximately 14°C/W.
