The Texas Instruments TPS2041BDR is a single-channel current-limited high-side power distribution switch designed for applications where heavy capacitive loads, hot-plug events and short-circuit conditions may occur.
The device operates from a 2.7V to 5.5V input supply and supports a continuous load current of 500mA. An integrated 70mΩ N-channel MOSFET provides low conduction loss while eliminating the need for an external power switching transistor.
TPS2041B uses a fixed current-limit architecture with a typical current limit of approximately 1A. TI specifies a current-limit range of approximately 0.75A to 1.25A, helping protect the power source and downstream circuitry during overload and short-circuit conditions.
When an overload or short circuit occurs, the device enters constant-current mode and asserts the active-low OC overcurrent fault output. If excessive power dissipation causes the junction temperature to rise, integrated thermal protection automatically shuts down the switch until the device cools sufficiently.
The integrated charge-pump gate driver controls MOSFET rise and fall times to reduce current surges when switching capacitive loads. Typical output rise time is approximately 0.6ms. The device also includes undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and maintains a very low standby supply current of up to approximately 1µA.
The TPS2041BDR uses an active-low Enable input, allowing a microcontroller or logic device to control the output power path. It is particularly suitable for USB ports, peripheral power distribution and other protected 5V power-rail applications.
